Leading the 50th Anniversary Revival

Since his appointment as Editor in Chief in July, he has led the 50th anniversary revival of High Times, including a new glossy print issue and the fall return of the iconic New York "Tree" Cup. Just this week, Hasse earned his second Cannabis Journalist of the Year award at the Emjays.

Highlighting Innovation and Heritage

As a proud Jewish figure in cannabis media, Hasse has highlighted Israel's advancements, covering its leading medical cannabis research and clinical trials, which are projected to reach a $372 million market by the end of the year. He also celebrated cultural milestones like the launch of the world’s first kosher for Passover THC gummies in March, calling it a “historic first” and coining the playful tagline, “Let my people blaze!” — a nod to both tradition and therapeutic innovation.

In his acceptance speech, Hasse reflected on journalism as a “dying art,” candidly addressing the challenges facing media today. The field, once focused on investigation and amplifying voices, has often shifted toward speed over depth due to fast news cycles, algorithms, and mainly because people are just following the money.

Yet journalism endures through voices that prioritize inquiry and ethics, refusing to remain silent in the face of injustice. In many ways, this mirrors the cannabis movement itself, which represents connection, empathy, resistance, and the potential to break down stigmas. Effective journalism, like the plant, fosters dialogue and addresses social inequities and global issues without evasion.
