Wizard Trees has announced it will become the presenting sponsor of Mary Jane Berlin 2027

Wizard Trees has announced it will become the presenting sponsor of Mary Jane Berlin 2027, another significant milestone for a brand whose influence now extends well beyond California.
The announcement comes roughly five years after Wizard Trees committed to developing its own genetics programme, choosing to build something independently rather than relying on white-label genetics or simply attaching its name to existing projects.
It's a decision that has clearly paid off. What started as a California flower brand with a strong reputation for its genetics has developed into an internationally recognised name, with Wizard Trees lines now being worked across different parts of the world.
Mary Jane Berlin has become one of the largest cannabis events globally, attracting tens of thousands of visitors and hundreds of exhibitors from across the industry. For Wizard Trees to secure presenting sponsorship is a serious achievement, particularly when you look at how far the brand has come in a relatively short period.
But what's particularly interesting is just how far the genetics have travelled, and how much influence Wizard Trees is beginning to establish outside its original market.
We're now seeing Wizard Trees genetics being worked internationally, including right here in New Zealand, where a local team is actively hunting through Wizard Trees lines with the intention of identifying suitable phenotypes for potential development within our medical cannabis market.
That's a pretty significant example of how far the brand's reach has extended. We're talking about genetics that built their reputation in California now being explored on the other side of the world, with the possibility of eventually entering a regulated medical market. Obviously, hunting promising phenotypes and successfully bringing a product through medical regulatory requirements are two completely different stages, but the work being undertaken here is still worth recognising.
This is also where the genetics side of the cannabis industry becomes particularly interesting. A brand doesn't necessarily need to have its finished flower available in every country to establish a genuine presence there. If cultivators are actively working its genetics, hunting selections and building programmes around those lines, that influence can travel considerably further than the original product.
Germany has played a major role in Wizard Trees' international growth. The company has openly acknowledged the support it has received there over the years, and with Germany's changing cannabis landscape, the relationship between established American genetics brands and European cultivation communities has become increasingly important.
It's also worth recognising that Wizard Trees isn't simply entering Europe for the first time. The brand already has a following there, and this sponsorship appears to be another step in strengthening a position it has spent years developing.
There are plenty of cannabis brands chasing international recognition, but establishing a following across multiple markets and maintaining that relevance is a different challenge altogether. Wizard Trees has managed to build recognition through its genetics, its flower reputation and its identity, while continuing to expand the number of communities engaging with its work.
Of course, from our perspective, genetics and reputation are only part of the conversation. An elite genetic line doesn't automatically guarantee an elite finished product, and we've spoken extensively about how much batch-to-batch variation still exists, even when exceptional cuts are being grown. As these genetics continue reaching new markets, what growers actually manage to produce from them will be just as important as the name attached to them.
But that shouldn't take anything away from the scale of what Wizard Trees is achieving commercially and culturally.
Five years of independent development have helped establish a brand whose genetics are now being worked internationally, whose influence reaches markets as distant as New Zealand, and whose name will headline one of Europe's most significant cannabis events in 2027.
The presenting sponsorship is a major achievement in itself, but we're particularly interested in what comes next. As Wizard Trees continues expanding internationally, the real opportunity is seeing whether that influence translates into equally strong results across different cultivation programmes and regulated markets.
For a brand that has invested heavily in building its own genetics and identity, the international position Wizard Trees now holds is something worth recognising.
